Small Molecules With Big Impact: How Microrna Shapes The Future Of Non-Invasive Cancer Detection

Year Honored
2015

Region
Asia Pacific

"MicroRNA is a novel class of genetic material discovered only at the dawn of the 21st century but has continuously made headlines in biomedical research worldwide. Unlike its elder brothers DNA and mRNA, microRNA is exceptionally stable and accessible in body fluids and provides real-time information of the epigenetic changes in the body, including the presence of disease at its early and asymptomatic stage. It has attracted so much clinical interests that Frost and Sullivan bullishly projected that “advance in microRNA is predicting future in vitro diagnostic market”. At the EmTech conference, Lihan will present the development of a technology platform capable of accurately detecting minute amount of cancer specific circulating microRNA from merely drops of blood. He will summarize data from several on-going cancer studies involving thousands of patients and share his thoughts on how microRNA tests can shape the future of cancer care."
