Ghena Alhanaee is a PhD Candidate and Research Assistant at the University of Southern California’s Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She has been pursuing unique and unprecedented research in the area of nuclear energy catastrophe modeling, the impact of nuclear safety provisions on the Arabian Gulf, and the implementation of policies for risk mitigation. As countries around the Gulf have embarked on ambitious projects introducing nuclear power to the region, Ghena's work focuses on assessing the complex interdependencies of nuclear power to the existing oil / gas and desalination industries, in order to develop a rigorous framework ensuring the security of reliable water and energy supplies. Her work has gained recognition at several international conferences including the Water Energy Nexus Conference in Salerno, Italy in 2018, and the Day Zero Conference in California,
She is finishing her PhD at the University of Southern California in civil engineering.
