"“There is plenty of room at the bottom” is a famous quote by Nobel laureate Richard Feynman which has inspired many generations of scientists and engineers. Indeed the nano and quantum worlds offer an incredible amount of opportunities to tackle the problems we face at our “normal” scale. It is from the nano scale that Dario addresses energy related issues, searching for fundamental and general design principles for the next generation of energy efficient nano devices. In particular, by investigating quantum emulators (systems made of extremely cold atoms trapped by lasers and magnetic fields), he studies the flow of heat and energy and the functioning of nanoscopic heat engines."
