Basem’s innovations integrate cutting-edge AI/ML, biochemistry, and gene editing to transform genetic medicine, agriculture, and environmental sustainability. The compact CRISPR technologies Basem developed are less than half the size of traditional systems, enabling safer and more efficient therapeutic applications. Foundational CRISPR patents for which Basem is an inventor have been sublicensed to Bayer, Vertex, and Regeneron and are used in agricultural applications globally.

He has also further developed multiple RNA editing platforms that perform large-scale, mutation-agnostic edits, addressing diseases with high allelic diversity and significantly reducing R&D, manufacturing, and regulatory hurdles.

Basem is currently developing new technologies that further expand the ability to target different tissues and diseases, and scale genetic corrections to treat previously untreatable diseases safely and affordably.
