Founder and coordinator of IN3

While most healthcare professionals in developed nations have access to the proper equipment needed to care for premature babies, this is not always the case for those working in developing countries. That is why Alejandro Escario, a Telecommunications and Computer Engineer by training, has been working to develop In3, a low cost, modular infant incubator that he believes will save countless premature lives in areas where hospitals do not have the means to purchase nor maintain more expensive, traditional incubator models. This prototype is already being tested as a medical device with some newborns in a maternity ward in Senegal and is currently being deployed in Sierra Leone. Escario and his team plan to send the device to Congo this summer and are currently collaborating with the Ministry of Health in Guatemala as well to begin testing the product.
