Just a few decades ago, the idea of manufacturing synthetic DNA may have sounded like something straight out of a science fiction novel. However, since 2014 French-born Sylvain Gariel has been working to make that seemingly far-fetched idea a reality. Gariel’s company DNA Script is seeking to develop a benchtop DNA Printer capable of synthesizing a variety of DNA and RNA products. The objective of DNA Script is to foster greater innovation in life sciences and technology through the rapid, affordable creation of high-quality synthetic DNA. Gariel hopes that this technology will stimulate existing markets and create new, multi-billion dollar opportunities in the sector.
